JLab Launches Smallest Earbuds On The Market… Smaller Than AirPods

Apr 14, 2024

The new JLab JBuds Mini are the smallest true wireless earbuds of any major headphone brand.

Audio brand JLab is making a small claim today that its latest pair of true wireless earbuds launching at IFA Berlin, are the “smallest earbuds on the market.” That’s a bold claim. However, when you read the small print, it seems JLab’s JBuds Mini are the smallest true wireless earbuds of any major headphone brand. Major headphone brand is defined as the top 10 brand based on Circana/The NPD Group/Retail Tracking Service in 2022. So, let’s say the JBuds Mini are small, but there may be smaller earbuds out there if you look closely enough.

JLab claims that finding true wireless earbuds that provide a secure and comfortable fit is a common lament, especially among people with small ears. The JBuds Mini are 30% smaller than JLab's GO Air POP earbuds and ship with a charging case that’s incredibly small and light, including Apple's third-generation AirPods.

The JBuds Mini will be available on September 1, 2023. This is the first time JLab has released a new product globally. Until now, the brand has always introduced its products through retail channels in North America, with distribution in other regions following some months later.

The JLab JBuds Mini are available in mint, sage, pink, aqua, and black colorways.

The charging case for the JBuds Mini is smaller than most car key fobs. Each earbud weighs only 3.3g and the charging case is 18.5g. Despite their compact size, the JBuds Mini includes noise-canceling microphones in each earbud, paired with a 6mm dynamic neodymium driver. Total playtime for the JBuds Mini is more than 20 hours, with each earbud offering 5.5 hours from a single charge.

Dual-connect technology enables either earbud to be used individually. Bluetooth Multipoint means users can connect two devices to the earbuds, so it’s possible to have one smartphone connected for business calls and a second for personal calls.

The touch controls on the JBuds Mini offer the usual commands like pause, resume, and answer phone calls. A Be Aware setting lets outside noise pass through so the user knows about hazards or travel announcements. The JLab smartphone app offers EQ presets and customization of the EQ settings and touch controls. Three different-sized pairs of gel ear tips enable the user to get a decent fit.

The JBuds Mini earbuds have a reasonable specification set, but the audio codec is limited to the basic SBC, which doesn’t offer codecs for higher-res audio like AAC and aptX. Another omission is wireless charging. The JBuds Mini can only be recharged using the supplied USB-C cable. These tiny earbuds sound like reasonable value for money; if size matters, they are small enough to pop in the tiniest space and offer excellent convenience.

Pricing & Availability: The JBuds Mini will be available from September 1 in five colors: mint, sage, pink, aqua, and black. The price will be $39.99 / £39.99.
